Mem 2.0 Dev Update #1: The New Editing Experience

Welcome to the first installment of Mem 2.0 development updates! This week, we’re taking a closer look at our brand-new note editor, coming soon to Mem 2.0.

Mem 2.0 is a complete rebuild of Mem, launching later this year. In case you missed it, check out the announcement on the blog for all the details on our biggest update to Mem to date. Over the course of the development updates to come, we’ll deep dive into one area of Mem 2.0 to give you further details about what to expect.

We believe the note-taking experience in Mem should be smooth, intuitive, and delightful. It’s where you create, edit, and interact with your knowledge, and it’s the heart of the Mem experience.

As a result, and thanks to the feedback we’ve heard from community members like you, we’ve completely redesigned the note editing experience from the ground up, using an entirely new editor technology.

Here are a few key highlights of the brand-new Mem 2.0 editing experience:

  1. A smooth experience, without the bugs
Editing a note in Mem will just work. No more lag, skipping cursors, flaky undo/redo, formatting quirks, odd scroll behavior, or unpredictable copy-and-paste. And whether you’re editing a short to-do list or a 20-page manuscript, the editor will remain performant and reliable regardless of the length of your note.

  2. Real-time collaborative editing with live cursors
Collaboration in Mem is getting a major upgrade. Our new editor will support real-time collaborative editing, enabling multiple teammates to work in a note simultaneously. Live cursors will show each team member’s position in real-time, making collaboration more seamless and intuitive.

  3. Use Chat side-by-side with a note
You won’t have to leave the editor to chat with Mem anymore, so you’ll be able to quickly pull up a fact you wanted to reference, or ask Chat to help you flesh out your idea right alongside your note.

  4. Rich link embeds
In Mem 2.0, you’ll be able to preview linked content inside of a note in Mem, making it easy to gain context and clarity on external knowledge you’ve saved.

    … and 🥁🥁🥁

  5. Tables 🎉
Yes, you read that right! We heard you: Tables are finally coming to Mem. Now, organizing data in a structured, easy-to-visualize format in Mem will be easier than ever.

We are incredibly excited about the enhancements coming to the new editor in Mem 2.0. These updates reflect our commitment to providing you with a smoother, more intuitive, and feature-rich note-taking experience.

Stay tuned for our next development update, where we’ll be diving deep into the upgrades we’re making to speed and dependability in Mem.
