Mem 2.0 Dev Update #6: Mem Copilot, the Evolution of Related Notes

In this update, we’re giving you a closer look at how we’re making staying organized a no-brainer in Mem 2.0, coming later this year.

With related notes, Mem has always helped you surface and connect related information automatically, contextualizing your thoughts and unlocking insights without the need for manual organization. In Mem 2.0, we’ve built on the foundation of related notes and taken it to the next level, so you can easily connect the dots between your current and past ideas with more accuracy and insight.

We’re calling this evolution of related notes Mem Copilot.

Mem Copilot, coming in Mem 2.0, will build upon related notes by not only surfacing related content from your Mem, but also organizing it into topics for you, so you can quickly see why something is relevant to your work at a glance. By bringing even more context to your content, Mem Copilot will empower you to rediscover and build upon past ideas like never before.

Here's what to expect from Mem Copilot:

1. Higher precision and more comprehensive recall
We’ve designed Mem Copilot to improve both recall and precision of the notes it surfaces. Mem will ensure it’s showing all of the notes that are relevant to what you’re working on, rather than just a sample. Working in tandem with this approach, Mem filters out irrelevant notes to avoid distracting you with noise during your workflow.

2. Automatic categorization
Mem Copilot will automatically categorize the relevant notes into unique themes or topics, based on how they relate to your current note. This means that all of your related notes will be presented under relevant groupings — like “Meetings with Bob” or “Monetization Strategy Notes” — giving you even more insight to your past knowledge at-a-glance.

3. Offline support
Unlike Related Notes in Mem 1.0, you will be able to rely on Mem Copilot even when you’re offline. Before you go offline, Mem saves the connections between your notes, letting you stay organized on-the-go regardless of your internet connection. And if you create new notes while offline, Mem will automatically link them to the right topics and notes once you’re back online.

4. Real-time updates
We’ve revamped how connections refresh dynamically in real-time as you type, ensuring that what you see in Mem Copilot is always the most relevant set of notes. Now, the related notes will only update when you make meaningful changes, ensuring your experience stays smooth and focused without any unexpected related note refreshes.

5. Faster discovery
In Mem 2.0, you’ll be able to search directly within Mem Copilot. This allows you to open up any note you’d like side-by-side, in addition to seeing related notes next to the note you’re currently working on. The related notes shown within Mem Copilot will also now be ordered chronologically by notes you’ve most recently edited, ensuring your most up-to-date ideas are always at the forefront.

This wraps up our sixth installment of Mem 2.0 development updates, where we share the details on what to expect when Mem 2.0 arrives later this year. In case you missed it, you can read our last Mem 2.0 development update about how we redesigned syncing in Mem 2.0.
